Tracking Texas: Mapping Bills from the 2025 Session

As January approaches, Texas is getting ready for a unique legislative sprint that only happens every two years. The next few months will be full of high stakes policy making, where thousands of bills covering everything from education to energy will be filed, debated, and voted upon. The decisions made during this brief window will impact the daily lives of Texans for years to come.

While the state’s official website publishes newly filed bills every day, it wasn’t designed with everyday users in mind. This creates a barrier for people trying to understand what their local lawmaker is doing in Austin. Because these official systems are so complex, they can obscure important policy developments and make it harder for citizens to hold their representatives accountable.

This is important. Recent sessions have been dominated by cultural debates that often overshadow the crucial business of government like infrastructure and education funding. These priorities – or lack of priorities – reveal a lot about who our representatives serve. Understanding what bills your lawmakers file, support, or oppose is key to evaluating their effectiveness.

I built these maps so you could answer a single question for yourself: are my elected officials representing my interests?

These maps are a window into Austin’s activities

Each district on these maps tells a story through color. Darker shades indicate more bills filed, showing you who are the most prolific filers. But quantity isn’t everything! Clicking on a district reveals the actual content of these bills, letting you judge for yourself whether your representative is focusing on issues that matter to your community.

We are mapping bills every day, creating a living record of legislative activity. You can track how bills progress through committees, spot patterns in regional priorities, and identify which lawmakers are driving the conversation on issues you care about.
