City of South San Francisco General Plan

Every ten years, cities in California must adopt a general plan. This plan articulates the community's vision for the future. It contains goals, strategies for achieving the goals, metrics to measure progress, and policy recommendations.

At January Advisors, we're very familiar with the planning process. In fact, we were the technology partners on the City of Houston's first general plan. For that project, we developed branding, creative assets, and an interactive website with a geospatial search tool.

In 2018, the City of South San Francisco went out to RFP and cited Plan Houston as an example of a successful planning website. When we got the phone call from Raimi + Associates to partner on a proposal, it was hard to pass up.

During the course of this project, our work included:

  • Technical project management
  • Web design and development
  • Content management
  • Data visualization and mapping
  • Staff training

Of course, being data nerds, one of our favorite parts of the website was the performance metrics section:

We developed interactive data visualizations for the SSF general plan's performance metrics.

As the data sources piled up, we got creative and thought about the different ways to tell a story with the data behind the general plan.

Now that the plan is live and the site has launched, we continue to work with the City of South San Francisco as they gather more feedback from the community and make progress towards their planning goals.
